This species is native to China but became extinct in the wild by the late 19th century. Thanks to conservation efforts, they survive today in reserves and reintroduction sites. Much larger than other deer, they stand around 3.5–4 feet at the shoulder and can weigh 300–440 lb. With their long legs, heavy build, and distinctive antlers that branch backward.
