Collection: Tahr Hunting

Himalayan Tahr were introduced to New Zealand in 1904. Initially, 13 Tahr were released, here they thrived in the alpine environment, now numbering in the tens of thousands, there is a stable population of these incredible animals we are fortunate enough to hunt.

Himalayan Tahr are large, goat-like animals. Mature male Tahr (bulls) can weigh between 140 and 240 pounds (70-120 kg).  They stand up to 3.3 feet (100 cm) at the shoulder and be up to 4.7 feet (140 cm) long. Sporting an impressive mane, during the rut (June/July) they appear strong and bold on the hill, resembling something of a hybrid between a Mountain Goat, Grizzly Bear and a Lion.
